Final crit

When over viewing this project it is clear to suggest that some components worked far more effectively than others, with the general structure being the book's greatest downfall. The acetate disturbs the following page in some cases, a factor in which would not be acceptable if this design was to be mass produced. This lack of consideration also causes the book to appear illegible in parts. The intended binding method was not used due to a layout mishap, and thus a solution had be be made quickly. This is definitely an area in which woud be altered if this project were to be re-done, as the plastic spiral bind does not convey the celtic atmosphere in which the Japanese bind would. The bind also appears less durable than that of the intended bind, causing the book to appear less prominent.

Alegreya was used in both a serif and san serif format in order to express both titles and body copy effectively. As the typeface is available within both English and Welsh, it allowed for a design in which considered the importance of both languages, as well as exhibiting them correctly. The typeface itself uses many characteristics in which form that of celtic ideology, the cross of the first and second diagonal ,in the W, being an example.

The colour palette used followed that of a neutral format, as it expresses the colours present within the Welsh landscape. The stories individual palettes have been altered to comply with that of the folktale, with more eerie stories expressing a darker scheme. A factor in which sets this book aside from its competitors.

A white stock was used with a gsm of 120, due to the books accessible nature. Although a lighter paper was experimented with, it was apparent that this made the book feel much less prominent and thus the decision was finalised.

As target audience was a massive component within the design decisions of this book, I decided to conduct some research into how Welsh youths experienced the book. From this I feel that it is acceptable to suggest that the modernist approach highly targets that of a younger demographic.
