Myths and young people

Part of human nature is our attempt to explain things we cannot understand. People want to fill in gaps in knowledge that can't be rationally answered through experimentation and observation. Because we can't use logic to explain such situations, however, the alternative becomes the development of a mythological explanation, using supernatural beings or powers or events to provide the explanation that is unavailable otherwise. We all desire order in our lives - and this is where the link between mythology and young people begins. In a world with growing pressures upon the next generation, young people can often find themselves questioning the unknown. This being particularly relevant to the opinions of many young people surrounding religion, and the ultimate question of what actually occurs after your demise. Myths help to provide information in situations where no other explanation is apparent, something in which somewhat comforts each individual.
