Binding second attempt

Initially when exploring signatures it was pre-determined that three lots of three were to be used. This being due to the book maintaining 36 pages. When attempting to print a mock up, it was discovered that the pages were not in a continuous order. After conducting research into the structure of signatures it was revealed that signatures need to be constructed from an even number in order for them to work.

Simple calculations were then done in order to formulate a conclusion. Firstly 36 was divided by 16 (the pages within each signature) from this the result was 2.25. From this result two options were available:

  1. To develop two signatures in which contain 26 pages.
  2. Develop 3 signatures of 16 pages.
As a certain level of uncertainty was formed around which option to consider, both were constructed in order to see the formatting of both. The increase of book pages also meant that the original 30 page double spread would have to be increased, or other information was to be included.

2 signatures
The two signatures appeared strong in structure, yet felt somewhat limited due to the books unpropritnate aesthetic appeal. This method also meant that the binding method was not apparent, causing the structure to look somewhat unprofessional.

3 signatures
Using three signatures allowed the book to appear far more proportionate, with the binding method also being exposed, although not fully, a factor in which limits this book due to the number of pages nessisarty. The book also opened flat, a key factor to this book's design.
