Lyrics-At last

In order to gather a greater understanding of the iconic song, At last, I decided to look closely at the lyrics present, drawing conclusions from the lyrics used.

"At Last"- Etta James

At last
My love has come along
My lonely days are over
And life is like a song

Oh yeah yeah
At last

The skies above are blue
My heart was wrapped up in clover
The night I looked at you

I found a dream, that I could speak to
A dream that I can call my own
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known

Oh yeah yeah
You smiled, you smiled
Oh and then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
for you are mine...
At Last

Drawing from the above lyrics, some specific phrases appeared to express Etta's emotions towards her troublesome upbringing. Examples being:

"My lonely days are over"- By stating that her lonely days are over, Etta expresses that she has previously felt isolated as she didn't have anyone in which she could constantly rely on, but that now an equilibrium has been derived which allows her to feel as if she is able to trust once again.

"And here we are in heaven
for you are mine...

At Last"- In some respects I feel that this is one of the most emotional phrases expressed within this song. It suggests that the only way in which she can maintain someone is that if they are in heaven, and in eternal happiness. As otherwise why would someone be interested in supporting her.
