Analysis of 'At last'

The song itself is build up of a relatively simple structure. The song commences with an induction by the string instruments, which is then accompanied with Etta's rendition of the chorus. With Etta then ceasing three bars before the end of the piece upon the score. Etta then again pauses upon the beat of the second bar. Etta's role within the song then finalises with the iconic words 'at last', which is then accompanied by string instruments playing the outro.

The timbre of this piece is very subtle and gentle from the accompanying instruments. Etta's vocal range is so powerful that the song's melody often seems to be non-existent. It is also a homophonic piece as there is accompanying instruments and a melody line.
