Meet up with Brewer

In order to gain a better understanding of what was wanted from Hiraeth, a meeting was set up. The company owners, two brothers from mid Wales met me for a brief discussion surrounding the brewery and what they expect. At this stage, it was outlined that this brief was a paid opportunity.

Hiraeth is a soon to be brewery situated in the Welsh hills of Llansantffraid-ym-Mechain. The ales developed by the brewery take on welsh flavours to develop exciting products in which will be widely dispatched across the UK, showcasing welsh heritage.

In terms of deliverables, the following was outlined:

  • Logo (develop a logo in which conveys a contemporary Welsh brewery)
  • Packaging designs (complete 3 packaging designs for the discussed ales. The packaging design should promote a contemporary aesthetic and appeal to 20-35 year olds invested within the craft ale scene.)

Selected ales:

Pantry – Bara Brith Stout (9%)
Pantry is a strong stout that uses the flavours of the traditional welsh cake, bara brith. It has a deep rich flavour containing notes of mixed fruit and spices such as cinnamon and ginger all underpinned by a base note of deep roasted malts.

Biscuit Barrel – Custard Cream Pale Ale (5%)
A pale ale which combines the matiness and creamy flavour of the biscuit custard cream. Oats, plenty of malt, and lactose are used to re-create these flavours in a smooth and flavoursome pale ale.

Garden – Lemon and Lavender IPA (6.5%)
Plenty of lemons are packed into this refreshing and juicy IPA which is also heavily hopped with citra and simcoe. This is rounded off with a subtle aftertaste of real lavender.
