Logo sketches

From the research undergone, initial sketches were devised surrounding the brewery's logo. These logos attempt to establish a strong, professional brewing aesthetic.

A range of initial sketches were devised showcasing a broad variety of concepts and ideas. These all focusing upon embedding a welsh, contemporary aesthetic.

As these thumbnails were extremely rough these were not sent to the brewers but rather so used to inform further illustrations, some of the designs in which stood out have been outlined below:

  1. focusing upon the idea of a coat of arms, the typography is embedded as an emblem. Further connections have been made towards wales with a castle being positioned on the top of the design.
  2. following a circle format, the type surrounds the castle in a similar reenactment of past welsh heritage.
  3. minimal in nature, a simple typographic design may be explored, this being similar to the Camden Brewey case study.

From the original drawings, further sketches were developed for the brewers to pass comment upon.

Feeback from the brewers:

  • They suggested that the usage of a castle was highly effective and represented the brewery's welsh heritage
  • they also stated that they did not want a logo in which used curved type, as very little breweries do so
  • they suggested that the purely typographical approaches felt genderless and thus worked effectively
  • they also went onto state that examples 1 &4 should be further explored digitally.
