Aesthetic (d)

As the structure of the notebook has now been decided upon initial ideas were outlined surrounding the aesthetic of the design. Again the cut and paste method will be used but there are strong uncertainties surrounding the concept of the notebooks in which need to be discussed further within a critique.

The general ideas expressed within the above drawings include: a reuse of previous cut and paste illustrations, a stationary based design in which focuses purely upon equipment, and a speech bubble approach. When thinking specifically about each concept it became largely apparent that the reuse of previous illustrations would not be effective in this situation as no celebration is being made and thus the majority of the iconography is not suitable, although the flower illustrations could be used. As within my initial research for the project it became evident that botanical designs are highly used I decided to explore with other options.

The stationary based design focused upon the fact that a large proportion of individuals within the target demographic are at univeristy and thus are more likely to use the product than someone within a professional job role. The stationary influenced therefore ties the usage to the concept.

A speech bubble approach may also be an effective route although I am unsure whether this is repeating a small part of the current range.

When discussing the general aesthetic with my peers they suggested that it would be a strong idea to follow the stationary path and to explore it extensively. They also suggested that I could develop a range of stationary notepads rather than limit myself to one design. These ideas will be taken further and explored within quick sketches.
