Exploring with CAD

Variation 1

The first design idea uses that of the pre-developed architectural drawing to emphasise the beauty of the picture house. Red has been used due to the mass read brick buildings situated in Hyde Park.

Variation 2

The second drawing highlights the picture house with suggested speech bubbles. These would caption quotes surrounding the picture house in order to promote community.

Variation 3

The above design attempts to include that of an elephant in order to embed the event whereby an elephant visited the picture house. As the event would have been highly important at the time, I believe this to be relevant.

Variation 4

Using a framed approach the above design captures the classical ethos of the picture house.

Variation 5

Focusing directly upon the gas lit aspect, the above 3 tone approach is simple yet effective. Although my designs are to appear within an exhibition they will also be maintained within future portfolios and thus it is essential that I widely explore with the design.

Variation 6

Focusing upon the elephant concept the above design was developed. When thinking about the idea of embedding an elephant within the design, it must be considered whether this is ethical. The elephant that visited would have been drawn away from its family, transported thousands of miles in unsafe conditions, and was used for the purpose of humans. As a result of this I will not be using designs in which resemble elephants.

Variation 7

The above approach focuses upon the picture house being the centre of the community. 'The talk of the city' has been currently embeded within the design, although personal quotes could be added surrounding the picture house.

Variation 8

As all of the previous designs did not explore a realistic approach to that of the picture house, a photograph was altered in order to highlight the iconic typography placed upon the front of the building.

Variation 9

A landscape poster was explored as all previous posters were portrait. Although this would allow the poster to be seen from a different perspective I believe it removes the traditional aspect in which I wish to capture.

Variation 10

Similar to alphabets concept, the above deisgn explores that of a cinema billboard. The angled approach gives the design a more interesting design as traditional grid systems are broken.

Variation 11 & Variation 12

The above two designs focus upon the landscape surrounding the picture house. The block approach shows the grid system of terrace houses surrounding the picture house.

Variation 13

Highly minimal the above design focuses purely upon type. This poster design does not reflect myself as a designer as I believe it to not explore my full skill set.

Variation 14

Although in its very early stages, the above design focuses upon the wartime aspect of the picture house. As the picture was opened in 1914 it was a large hub for those during such a devastating period. Typography would have to be explored more extensively if this was to be completed.

Crit

When discussing my ideas with my peers they suggested that some designs were far more effective than others. Although the 14th idea was very undeveloped they suggested that the concept of this piece was by far the strongest and thus this may be taken further. They also suggested that other strong designs, such as the illustration of the picture house, could be added to this design in order to explore multiple iconography pieces in one.
