Wedding cards

Homosexual wedding cards

Following a 'tie the knot' idea, this card is highly engaging and appears to focus upon the concept of marriage rather than the idea of gay marriage.

When researching cards already available for a gay marriage, it became highly apparent that a large emphasis was upon the couple being gay rather than the main focus of a wedding, love. Pun's are frequent with some rather rude approaches being noted. Obvious tie and bowtie approaches are expressed, as well as that of the white and black suits. A range of approaches are expressed from illustration to typographical, with embossing, foiling and screenprint not being frequently expressed.

Hetrosexual wedding cards

Hetrosexual wedding cards appear to focus upon love more predominantly, with hearts and passionate colours being frequently used. Usually only typography allows for the exclusion of gay couples, and thus the designs used can easily be transferred to a homosexual wedding card. As hetrosexual cards are most common mediums are expressed further than for that of with homosexual, and thus this may be a focal point.

Both

'Unisex' wedding cards apply to both homosexual, and hetrosexual couples. They express no gender orientation, although it may be suggested that a pink card could appear more feminine. Typographic elements are frequently used with no reference to the couple's title. The only problem with these designs are that they do not appear personal to the couple, and appear rather cheap. The reasons behind this will be explored further.

Things learnt:

  • card must be relevant
  • shouldn't contain puns
  • Typography allows the card to appear more personal
  • suit approaches often appear tacky
  • love should be the main focus
  • colour schemes should be appropriate
