Exploring with colour

The colour wheel

\

Following on from the previous design exploration, research was undergone into complimentary colours. This being essential as aesthetically this design must be attractive in order to gain attention within my portfolio as a stand-alone, editorial piece.

As the initial images of Adam explore a purple background, the complementary colour of yellow was highlighted. As the colour itself is known for its illegibility, Futura bold was used, in order to promote a strong, eye-catching piece of typography.

A range of colours were explored with in order to ensure that the design felt impactful. This in turn promoting the loud and proud nature of the publication, again relating to the content. Although the colours stood out against the image, I felt that they did not do this as boldly as the previous yellow.

The yellow was further explored with, although when typefaces with a smaller weight were used the imapct was lesser. As a result of this bold typefaces must be used if thius colour is selected.

Peer feedback

After discussing the colours with my peers they suggested that as yellow is part of the gay flag, I could embed the rest of the flags colours within the following spreads, this promoting the content physically.

Erins comments

Erin stated that she enjoyed the yellow, and felt it to be highly impactful. She also suggetsed that she prefered bolder typefaces, such as Futura, or Helvetica Bold.
