Studio Brief 01 - Logotype

For this design brief I have chosen to rebrand Marks and Spencers. I decided upon this company as I feel that I could personally develop and improve the companys current logo giving it an aspect of contexuality and meaning.

Marks and Spencers relationship with Leeds

The first 'M&S' stall was opened by Michael Marks at Kirkgate Open Market in 1884. Micheal was then soon to collabroate with Tom Spencer who joined the buisness in 1894. By 1896 they had two stalls in block 15 of Kirkgate Market. As buisness thrived,  a new store was opened at 76 Briggate st.

What do they do?
M&S specalises in the distrabution of clothing, home products and luxuary food products. Around 21 million customers visit their stores each week and they have 78,000 employees across the UK.

Who is their target audience?

Due to their overall quality and clothing style it would suggest that the intended target audince is 40-70 years, who fit into the ABC1 demographic profile. This is clearly established throughout the shop and items available within it.

Where will their logo appear?
The M&S logo appears on all of their shops, bags and tv adverts, therefore the logo must be easily identifiable.
