Although only 21.9% of welsh people actually speak fluent welsh I feel that a bilingual aspect to the book is important in order to gather a wide target audience. In recent years the welsh language has been somewhat idolised within welsh communities with welsh being a compulsory subject in both primary and secondary schools. Purely welsh channels have also seen a large increase in viewers, with S4C now having a strong online presence, as well as television based. Programmes such as Y Gwyll/Hinterland have increased the presence of this programming system, with the show even appear on the BBC, showing how prominent the welsh language is becoming.
Another reason behind my decision is that of the Welsh language act, an act of the Parliament which put the Welsh language on an equal footing with the English language in Wales with regard to the public sector.
Due to these factors I will be placing the welsh language first within the design in order to respect the traditional welsh language.
