What is Graphic Design?

What is Graphic Design? Well many would suggest that it is closely following theorists such as Vignelli. Creating informed design using grids, legible typefaces and a modernist approach. Although my personal design is very modernist, I do appreciate post modern work and often refer to it during projects. I feel that as a designer their should be a happy medium. Yes there should be structure, but not strict guidelines suggesting where every piece of typography fits. Graphic design is about exploring and experimenting with techniques and ideas, design is also personal and when derived from concepts can never be wrong.
